Driving through the village I noticed that topsoil has been deposited and graded upon the triangular road island at the Debenham junction. I do not live in Stonham but feel that is important that residents are aware that this topsoil will kill or severely impede the health of the mature trees on this island. Mature trees cannot relocate their established root systems in reaction to dramatic changes in soil level. This traffic island has several mature Ash and Oak trees that are of high Landscape importance. Whoever undertook this work either did not carry out an environmental risk assessment or are completely unaware of the effects of altering ground levels around mature trees. Prompt action is required to save these trees!

I am researching my grandmothers family - Thurlow, and last Sunday (10 June)I brought my mother back for a visit. Her mother, Beatrice May Thurlow, was born in 1892 (one of 15 children) and her parents were Teddy and Annie (nee Lambert) Thurlow. We met a very helpful lady, who was just going to lock the church. She informed us that Eva Thurlow had recently died and that her funeral was this week 13th. Eva was my mother's Aunt married to Tom Thurlow who died 1981. I would love to hear from anyone connected to the Thurlow family. The church was lovely and I plan to visit again in the summer to explore other nearby villages where other aunts and uncles lived.

My husband and I recently visited the village as I am researching my ancestors...the MARTIN and LAMBERT families. Was delighted to be able to drive around the lanes where they had once lived. Very dissapointed that the church was closed. I just wonder if any descendants of my family still live in the village/area.

The rasberry gin is made exactly the same as the sloe, just substitute the fruit. Used a little less sugar. Found it lovely chilled! Strawberry was ot so good, as it came out brown, but the rasberry remained a pink colour until the last drop was drunk!!!

Hi,
Just wanted to say that although after making your sloe gin the sloes are very bitter but are perfect for making sloe chocolate! Just squish them to remove the pips (a difficult task but worth it.)melt cooking chocolate and pour into a flat containter lined with clingfilm, wait until cool and put in the sloes. Melt a futher amount of chocolate and pour on top. Allow to cool. Simply delicious.
